In-house rug cleaning is recommended for Oriental Rugs and loose woven rugs. They should not be cleaned on location like wall-to-wall carpet. Healthy Home cares for the finest to the most basic rugs from around the world.

What Happens When We Clean Your Rug:

  1. Step 1 - Pre-Inspection and Pick-Up - We will determine as much as we possibly can about the type of rug and inherent qualities that may affect cleaning. We will outline the expected results and cleaning "prescription". Our company will come to your home to pick-up your rug, or you may drop it by our shop M-F 9am-5pm
  2. Step 2 - Dry Soil Removal - Woven rugs, especially hand knotted rugs are designed to hide dry soil. A few years ago, the Eureka company did a study and found that a 9 x 12 rug could hide 87 pounds of dirt! WOW! We use a variety of techniques to "dust" the rugs from the front and back. A machine called the pile lifter, special vacuum attachments and many other methods are implemented. This is the most important step in cleaning any textile.
  3. Step 3 - Pre-Condition - Depending on fiber content and soiling type, the rug will be pre-treated to emulsify the soils.
  4. Step 4 - Pre-Spot & Fringe Preparation - Any potentially difficult spots will be pre-treated with special solutions to increase chances of removal. The fringe is also pre-treated for maximum soil removal.
  5. Step 5 - Shampoo - Most rugs are cleaned with an Oriental Rug Shampoo that is especially designed to get maximum cleaning while protecting sensitive natural fibers.
  6. Step 6 - Rinse or Wash - Depending on the type of rug it will be rinsed with extraction equipment on both sides or washed in a rug spa designed especially for Oriental Rugs.
  7. Step 7 - Speed Dry - Once the soil is rinsed away, the rug is dried flat or hung to dry in a controlled environment. Proper drying is essential to avoid unnatural shrinkage.
  8. Step 8 - Finishing - When the rug is dry, it is combed and finished with soft groomers made for specialty rugs.
  9. Step 9 - Post Inspection and Delivery - Our cleaning specialist will give the rug a final inspection and release it for pick up or delivery. Upon delivery, we will lay the rug for you.

Residential & Commercial Onsite Cleaning

We have special low-moisture tools that allow us to clean your rug onsite without getting the floor underneath the rug wet. Onsite cleaning is a basic cleaning only. Depending on the fiber content and soil level, the rug may require a deeper, restorative cleaning in our shop.

In-Shop Cleaning

Our in-shop cleaning allows us to give your rug a much deeper and thorough cleaning.  With our basic cleaning, we thoroughly vacuum the back and top of the rug, then pre-treat the fibers, and finally rinse and extract. For a deeper cleaning, we can powerscrub or hand scrub the rug.  There is a $45 pick-up and delivery fee for in-shop cleaning.

Rug Badger Cleaning

For a rug with sand, we offer our exclusive Rug Badger. The amazing new Rug Badger Dry Soil Separator pulls pounds of dirt out of area rugs. By removing stubborn, dry, abrasive, damaging soils and sediments along with allergens, we can really improve the health of your home. Call us for restorative care to your family's special heirloom rugs. We'll be glad to arrange a rug pickup. Feel free to contact us directly with any questions you may have. Harnessing over 25,000 harmonic vibrations a minute, the Rug Badger EL will vibrate out most stubborn soil and sediments caught deep in the fibers of any area rug. Nothing removes the sand from your rug like the Rug Badger. No matter how strong your vacuum is or how much you vacuum over and over and over again, you can't even remove 10% of what the Rug Badger does. It's simply amazing.  The innovative design incorporates 25 high tech vibro straps with a full 1/2 HP motor to drive the deep down dirt and sediments from a rug.

Healthy Home offers both in-home cleaning and a more thorough in-shop area rug cleaning. Our in-shop rug cleaning is recommended for Oriental and loose woven rugs. They should not be cleaned on location like wall-to-wall carpet. Healthy Home technicians are trained to clean any rugs, from basic area rugs to costly Orientals. Unless Healthy Home has previously cleaned the rug, a free assessment will be needed in order to determine the price of the cleaning. The price to clean your rug depends on the type of fiber, the size, the soil level, and many other factors.
